Communications Major (Hopefully)
I am a hardworking student and activist for Polynesian Community
In case you’re wondering, here’s how to pronounce my name, “Sah-low-meh”
You know like in the bible.
I am a first-generation, born U.S. citizen. My parents had immigrated here to America at the ages of five and two. Their parents brought them to the states because of the many educational opportunities found here. There are many young Polynesian men and women like me today who are also first-generation-born U.S. citizens due to the massive influx of immigrants coming from the pacific islands throughout the ’70s towards the mid-’80s.
I like long walks on the beach and dinner by the moonli- JUST KIDDING. Okay, so I love doing all things art like painting, sketching, you name it. I’m an alright singer and I’m pretty decent at the Ukulele (I know two songs).
The reason why I chose to apply to the Communications Major is that I want to make a physical difference in not only my community back in California but also here at Brigham Young University and I know that this major will show me exactly how to do that. From issues of misrepresentation to the processes of breaking down walls for future generations, I know that it can start here.
